ISBN assignment and content summary
Choose your package below, either with or without barcode images. You need one number for each format of your publication (paperback, e-book, hardback, …).
We will ask for author name and title.
Decision
Receive your ISBNs instantly by email. You keep 100% of your copyright and all royalties.
Because Vektor Publishing is the publisher of record, your book must credit it with a short publisher statement — for example “Published by Vektor Publishing on behalf of [your name]” — on the title verso (copyright) page, next to the ISBN. Your work is then registered by us on the Nielsen Book Database.
Publication
When you are ready to publish, you fill in a short form with the format for each ISBN and a brief summary of your work. We then add the information to the Nielsen Database.
Distribute your book. You must send one copy of each of your publications to the British Library within a month of publication. Five other legal deposit libraries may also request a copy.

What is an ISBN and do I need one?
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique 13-digit identifier assigned to every edition and format of a book. It is required by bookshops, libraries, and online retailers to list and sell your publication. If you want your book available through any commercial channel in the UK, you need an ISBN.
How many ISBNs do I need for my book?
You need one ISBN per format. A paperback edition, a hardcover edition, and an e-book edition each require their own unique ISBN. For example, if you publish your book as both a paperback and an e-book, you need two ISBNs.
Who is listed as the publisher on my ISBN?
Your book is published under the Vektor Publishing imprint, and the ISBN is registered to Vektor Publishing as the publisher of record. This is standard practice for independent authors who publish through an imprint rather than registering as their own publisher. It does not affect your intellectual property rights — you retain full copyright and all proceeds from sales — but your book must credit Vektor Publishing with a short publisher statement (see below).
Do I keep all rights to my book?
Yes. You retain 100% of the copyright and all commercial rights to your work, and you keep every penny of your book sales. Vektor Publishing is the imprint and publisher of record named on the ISBN registration, which is why your book must credit it with a short publisher statement — but you remain free to distribute, licence, or sell your work however you choose.
Do I need to credit Vektor Publishing in my book?
Yes. Your ISBN is registered to Vektor Publishing, the publisher of record for your book, and UK law requires every published book to name its publisher (and, for print editions, its printer). Your title verso (copyright) page must therefore carry a short publisher statement, placed prominently and close to the ISBN, for example:

on behalf of [your name]
(or “in association with [your name]”). For printed editions also add “Printed by [printer name]”. You still keep 100% of your copyright and all royalties — this statement is simply the required credit to the ISBN’s publisher of record.
How quickly will I receive my ISBN?
Your ISBN codes are delivered instantly by email right after checkout. We then send you a form requesting your publication details (format, description, and category) so we can register your book in the Nielsen Book Database.
What barcode graphic formats do you provide?
If you choose the Standard or Premium tier, we supply your ISBN barcode in JPEG, PNG, and PDF formats. These are high-resolution, print-ready graphics that can be placed directly into your book cover design. Each graphic encodes your unique ISBN number as a scannable EAN-13 barcode.
What is Nielsen Book Database registration?
Nielsen Book Database (formerly Nielsen BookData) is the UK's authoritative bibliographic database. Bookshops, libraries, and online retailers use it to discover and stock titles. When we register your ISBN, your book becomes visible to the entire UK book trade, including Amazon, Waterstones, and public libraries.
Do I need to send copies to the British Library?
Yes. Under the Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003, you are required to send one copy of every published edition to the British Library within one month of publication. This is free of charge and applies to all books published in the UK. Five other legal deposit libraries may also request a copy.
